Profile

Amy Lerman is Residential Faculty in English at Mesa Community College and enjoys teaching Developmental Writing, Composition, Literature, and Creative Writing. She served as the Developmental Coordinator for nine years and the Interim Director of Creative Writing for one semester, and prior to teaching at MCC, she was an Instructor at Arizona State University and on faculty at Kishwaukee College. Her Ph.D. and Masters in American Literature are from the University of Kansas, and she received her B.A. in English from the University of Illinois. Her chapbook, Orbital Debris, won the Jonathan Holden Poetry Chapbook Contest, she has been a Pushcart nominee, and her writing has placed/won  honorable mentions/finalist at Slippery Elm, Glimmer Train, Princemere Poetry Prize, Erskine J. Poetry Prize, Prime Number Magazine/Press 53 awards, Heartwood Poetry Prize, Button Eye, and Solstice Summer Contest. Her poetry appears in Passengers Journal, Atticus Review, Box of Matches, Euphony, Ghost City Review, Radar Poetry, Rattle, Slippery Elm, Smartish Pace, Prime Number, and elsewhere.

ENG101 First-Year Composition 3 Credits

Emphasis on rhetoric and composition with a focus on expository writing and understanding writing as a process. Establishing effective college-level writing strategies through four or more writing projects comprising at least 3,000 words in total.

Prerequisites: Writing placement or (C/ better in ESL097 or WAC101) or (B/better in ALT100) or (C in ALT100 & Corequisites: ENG101LL or ENG107LL or WAC101 or ENG100A+) or (C/better in ESL202 & Corequisites: ENG101LL or ENG107LL or WAC101 or ENG100A+).
